The New Ukraine
It’s all starting to come into a little better focus, and raises the obvious question: did Russia do some back room, quid pro quo, diplomatic bartering with Israel, the U$$A, Inc., the EU, and others, and agree to let the Assad government in Syria fall, in exchange for as much more Ukrainian territory as the Russian Federation wishes to incorporate? In other words, has the so-called negotiated end to the Ukraine conflict just been broadly concluded - - and only the messy details remain to be wrapped up over the next year or less?
I don’t know. I wasn’t in the room, but I have to ask, because the Russians are now pulling huge amounts of military equipment and personnel out of Syria, and back to Russia.
At the same time former President Dmitry Medvedev has begun publicly talking about the addition of new territories to the Russian Federation, using the same model as has already been used to incorporate five former oblasts of the Ukraine into the Russian Federation.

Russian forces continue to advance on the battlefield, taking more and more territory, as the Ukrainian military is ground down.
The main question at this point is how much more former Ukrainian territory the Russians want.
Do they want to reduce the Ukraine to a small, landlocked state on the Polish border, and take the entire eastern and southern regions of the former Ukraine?
We shall soon find out. It will not take another three years of fighting to resolve. I have a feeling that the deal has already been reached.
Dmitry Medvedev is broadly hinting that the new border between the Ukraine will reflect additional territory loss for the Ukraine, and by implication, further territory, resource and population gain for the Russian Federation.
